Clinical Analysis of Influential Factors of Macular Hole Closure Types After Pars Plana Vitrectomy in Idiopathic Macular Hole Patients

Objective: To investigate the influential factors of macular hole closure types after pars plana vitrectomy and the relationship between types of macular hole closure and postoperative visual acuity in idiopathic macular hole patients.Methods: In this retrospective study,pars plana vitrectomy were performed in 86 patients with idiopathic macular hole from June,2001 to June,2008.The characteristics of macular hole closure types assessed by optical coherence tomography(OCT) were analyzed.Meanwhile,correlations between the postoperative macular hole closure types and the possible factors(age,gender,duration of symptom,preoperative visual acuity,stages of preoperative macular hole,preoperative macular hole size,thickness of RNFL in the macular hole edge) were analyzed.Correlations between the macular hole closure types and the amount of postoperative visual improvement were also analyzed.Results: In all the patients,61 eyes(70.9%) were classified into the typeⅠclosure and 25 eyes(29.1%) into the type Ⅱ closure assessed by OCT.The types of macular hole closure were significantly correlated with the duration of symptom,preoperative macular hole size and thickness of RNFL in the macular hole edge,while not significantly correlated with age,gender,and preoperative visual acuity.The extent of postoperative visual acuity improvement of type Ⅰclosure group was significant better than that of type Ⅱ closure group.Conclusion: The type of macular hole closure was influenced by the duration of symptom,preoperative macular hole size and thickness of RNFL in the macular hole edge.The postoperative visual improvement of type Ⅰclosure group was significant better than that of type Ⅱ closure group.
