Abstract

Objective To evaluate the clinical effects of thymosin α1 on gastrointestinal carcinoma in elderly patients. Methods A total of 192 cases of elderly patients with digestive system tumors were selected as the research object, and randomly divided into control group and treatment group,ninety-six patients in each group. The control group received chemotherapy and each 2 days a saline injection, injection amount was 116 mg / time, course of treatment was 8weeks. The treatment group received chemotherapy and 116 mg thymosin α1 hypodermic injection treatment, once 2days,course of treatment was 8 weeks. T cell subgroup and NK lymphocyte activity were monitored before 1 week and after 2,4,8 weeks treatment. The patients' physical condition,Karnofsky score were compared. Results There was no significant difference in immune indexes between treatment group and control group before treatment( P 0. 05). After treatment,CD4+,CD4+/ CD8+and NK lymphocyte indicators were significantly higher in treatment group than those in control group( P 0. 05); but there were not significantly different in CD3+,CD8+indicators between the two groups( P 0. 05). After treatment,CD4+,CD4+/ CD8+and NK lymphocyte index were significantly higher than those before treatment in treatment group( P 0. 05). Karnofsky score was significantly higher in treatment group than that in the control group after treatment, the difference was statistically significant( P 0. 05); physical situation of all patients with the treatment time were decreased, the grade was significant difference before and after treatment in control group( P 0. 01). Conclusion Thymosin α1 can improve the immunological function,it also can be used as an adjunctive drug for the gastrointestinal carcinoma in elderly patients.
