A Study of the Chinese Characters in Japanese Newspapers

Abstract
The common Chinese characters in Japanese are the intersection of the Chinese vocabulary and the Japanese vocabulary.A comparison between Chinese characters in Japanese and Chinese words shows that among the 1,596 words originated from Chinese characters in Japanese newspapers,67% of them are the same and 33% are similar or different.This has occurred because of Japans' policy concerning Chinese characters,the development of the vocabulary system and the Chinese characters created in Japan.It has been found through statistic analysis that the Chinese people who do not speak any Japanese can understand at most 44.4% of the contents of Japanese newspapers.Therefore,it can be concluded that the Chinese characters in Japanese are an integral part of the Japanese lexical system.
