A cultural study on Ji Kang's ambivalence

Ji Kang was an important thinker and writer during Wei and Jin Dynasties.Faced with the hypocrisy of the secular rites,he proposed angrily the metaphysical idea ofexceeding the Confucian ethical code and giving the reins to natureto sing the most powerful rebellious spirit of that time.On the other hand,his poetry,debate texts and family letters showed his concern for human matters and compliance with and defense of Confucian ethics.This ambivalence existed not only due to his unique experience,also because of the influence of traditional Chinese culture:the thoughts infiltration of Confucius and Mencius,Lao zi and Zhuang zi.
