A clinical comparison study on venlafaxine and paroxetine in the treatment of depression

Abstract

Objective To compare the curative effects and safety of Venlafaxine and Paroxetine in the treatment of depression.Methods 60 patients with a diagnosis of depression according to CCMD-3 were randomly divided into Venlafaxine group(30 cases) and Paroxetine group(30 cases),treatment 8 weeks.Effects were evaluated with Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression(HAMD)and Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale(MADBS),safety were evaluated by Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale(TESS).Results Findings indicated that emcacy of Venlafaxine was similar to than of Paroxetine,however,Venlafaxine took effect more quickly.There was no significant different TESS between the two groups(P0.05).Conclusion Venlafaxine is an effective safe and work fast depressant.
