Abstract

Objective To observe glycemic excursions in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) patients using the continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS).Methods Forty pregnant women underwent a 1h 50g glucose challenge test (GCT) and a 3h 100g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT).They were divided into three groups:normal GCT group (n=10),abnormal GCT group (n=10) and GDM group (n = 20).All subjects receiving the CGMS test were evaluated for glycemic excursion. Results The overall extent of glycemic excursions, apeed and extent of preprandial and postprandial blood glucose increment, and incidents of hypoglycemic and hyperglycaemic events were significantly higher in GDM group than in other two groups(all P0.05).Conclusions CGMS can show the glycemic excursions in GDM,and contribute to the decision of diet treatment, exercise or drug treatment in pregnancy.
