THE EFFECT OF ISOMALTOOLIGOSACCHARIDES ON CAECAL AND COLONIC VOLATILE FATTY ACIDS,pH VALUE AND MORPHOLOGY IN PIGLETS

Abstract

Fifty four piglets weaned at 28 days were divided into three groups,the antibiotic,the control and the 0.05% Isomaltooligosaccharides (IMO) groups respectively,the basic diet of the three groups was the same.The experiment experienced 21 days.One piglet of each replicate was slaughtered on 35 and 42-day-old respectively to measure caecal and colonic VFA,pH and morphology.The result showed that acetic acid,propionic acid and total VFA concentrations in caecal and colonic digesta of the IMO group were higher(P0.05) comparing with the control group.IMO group had lower caecum and colon pH than the other two,but the difference was not significant.The colonic villus length of the IMO group and antibiotic group was significant longer than the control group on 42-day-old,crypt depth was not affected by treatments.
