Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of Interleukin-17(IL-17) and Bone Morphogenetic Protein-7(BMP-7) in normal and herniated discs, and analyze its role in hernimated discs. Methods The expression of IL-17 and BMP-7 was tested by immunohistochemistry method, thirty specimens of hemiated intervertebral disc tissue and ten normal disc tissue were immunostained with anti-human IL-17 and BMP-7 antibody. Results The results of average gray scale value of nucleus pulposus in control group were(112.077±4.353) and(103.605±4.696),respectively,(169.31±6.596) and(155.545±2.810) in experimental group. There was significant difference between the groups(P0.01).Conclusion IL-17 and BMP-7 are two important factors in intervertebral disc degeneration.IL-17 may be one of the important reasons leading to intervertebral disc degeneration.
