Confucius' benevolence in comparison with Lao Zi's non-benevolence

It is universally acknowledged that the core of Confuciusianism is benevolence.However,there is no final conclusion as to Lao Zi's non-benevolence.The problem is further complicated by the unearthing of the bamboo slips of Lao Zi's work at Guodian.This paper advances the view of Lao Zi's non-benevolenc versus Confucius' benevolence,then gives an analysis of the background for and the philosophical implications of their respective viewpoints in an attempt to find out things that are interlinked between them and things that complement each other,and finally arrives at the conclusion that their viewpoints are inseparably interconnected.
