Abstract

The main features of embedded PowerPC processor MPC8248 and embedded Linux systems are introduced at first.With the help of BSP(board support package),a development kit that is supplied by Embedded Planet company,the pivotal technologies are described in design and implementation of embedded Linux system,including host/target system configuration,setup of cross compile and debugger environment,modifying of PPCBoot,reducing and migrating the Linux kernel and the execution of file system, the expansion of real-time Linux——RTAI is also be realized.Linux system can support the PowerPC processor with good perform- ance.This embedded Linux system based on MPC8248 which is small,low-power also has many interfaces for development,and is benefit to the whole development of communication networks and systems in substations.
