Body Measurements and Improvement Breeding for Jiaxian Red cattle

【Objective】In order to monitor the growth performance of the pure-bred Jiaxian Red cattle in the main producing areas.【Method】body measurements of 92individuals from the Jiaxian Red cattle breeding center and 197individuals from the scattered farmers were determined.【Result】The results showed that the cattle have the similar body measurements with the history records,suggesting Jiaxian Red cattle still keep pure pedigrees in the major producing areas,but the cattle from the breeding center have larger body measurements,suggesting more nutrition cares are needed in the scattered farmers.The breeding records showed that hybridization have significantly improved the growth and slaughter performance since 90s.【Conclusion】We suggested that the percentage of blood introduction should be controlled to keep the inherent characteristics of Jiaxian Red cattle,and with the development of biotechnology in animal breeding,the molecular breeding methods could be used to improve the breeding progress.
