Abstract

Objective To investigate the role of IL-1β in the second window of protection of renal ischemic preconditioning against cold ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats. Methods Thirty-six SD rats with cold ischemia/reperfusion injury were randomly divided into: the sham operated group(group A),cold ischemia/reperfusion group(group B),and ischemic and reperfusion group(group C).The expression of IL-1β was observed with immunohistochemistry. The level of renal function, cells apoptosis and histologic examination were all detected. Results Blood urea nitrogen and creatinine levels in group B and C were significantly higher than those in group C(P0.01),and lower in group C than those in group B(P0.01).IL-1β and TUNEL positive cells all increased in group B and C as compared with those in group A(P0.01).Group C showed a less pathological change and a minor renal impairment(P0.01).Conclusion Ischemic preconditioning has a protective effect on the second window of protection of renal cold ischemia/reperfusion injury through decreasing IL-1β expression.
