Abstract

The American Philosopher Grice advanced the Cooperative principle and the theory of creating the conversation implicature for the violation of the principle. This paper uses the Chinese corpora to illustrate that the theory is applicable to the Chinese language as well. Then the paper moves to make it clear that the violation of the cooperative principle is not all for the sake of politeness.
