Abstract
Objective To study the clinical significance of p16 expression in breast carcinoma.Methods The expression of p16 gene in human breast carcinomas was studied by immunohistochemistry(SABC)to investigate the relationship between the expression and the clinical pathologic parameters.Results The positive rate of p16 was 45 7%(42/92).While no relationship was found between the expression of p16 and lymph node metastasis,the patients with negative expression of p16 have higher incidence of distant metastasis (34%, 17/50) than the positive group(14 3%,6/42), P 0 05.But no correlation was found between p16 and disease free period.Conclusions These findings suggest that the patients with negative p16 expression may be associated with metastasis resulting in poor prognosis.
