Evaluation of narrow-band UVB phototherapy in 48 patients with vitiligo

Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of the narrow-band ultraviolet B( NB-UVB) in the treatment of vitiligo. Methods Forty-eight patients with vitiligo were treated by a NB-UVB( 311 nm) which was performed three times per week,and continued totally for 12 weeks. Follow-ups were scheduled on 6 months after the treatment. The therapeutic effect and safety were evaluated. Results Among the patients,the clinical efficacy was as follows: fully recovery in 7 cases,significant improvement in 29 cases,moderate improvement in 9 cases. The total response rate was 75%. Conclusions The clinical data demonstrate that NB-UVB is a safe,effective and convenient method for treatment of vitiligo.
