Abstract
A Collection of Attempts is the practice of Hu Shi in vernacular poems which aims to prove that excellent poems may be achieved by vernacular.Hu Shi prefers natural vernacular poetic syllables and function words which reconcile classical Chinese and vernacular,combined with dialogic structure and new metaphors.All these four aspects constitute the modern characteristic of vernacular poems in A Collection of Attempts.
