A clinical control study of combined buspirone and fluoxetine in the treatment of major depression

Abstract

Objective:To explore the clinical efficacy of combined buspirone and fluoxetine in the treatment of major depression. Method:65 patients with major depression were involved in this study, they were randomly assigned to two groups (buspirone with fluoxetine or fluoxetine alone) for 6 weeks.Efficacy and side effect were assessed with Hamilton depression rating scale (HAMD),Hamilton anxiety scale (HAMA) and treatment emergent symptom scale (TESS) before and after the treatment. Results:Total HAMD, HAMA scores decreased significantly more in buspirone-fluoxetine group than in fluoxetine group,but there was no significant difference in TESS. Conclusion:Buspirone-fluoxetine is a highly effective treatment for major depression.
