Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between the polymorphism of apolipoprotein A5(apoA5) gene c553G/T and metabolic syndrome(MS).Methods A total of 203 patients with MS and 216 healthy controls were collected to determine the genotypes by using polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphisms(PCR-RFLP),and the levels of blood lipid and fasting blood glucose by enzymatic method. Results The frequency of c553T genotype of the patients with hypertriglyceridemia in MS group was significantly higher than that in control. The c553T allele was an independent risk factor with hypertriglyceridemia of MS(OR=3.380,P0.05).TT homozygotes and GT heterozygotes showed higher level of triglyceride(P0.05) in the both groups. Conclusion apoA5 gene c553G/T polymorphism associated with plasma triglyceride, and apoA5 c553T genotype may be an independent risk factor for MS.
