Abstract

At present, there are two main view- points on the stages of China modern and contem- porary literature in academic circles: one is traditional view that modern and contemporary literature should be divided into two stages according to the time point and the point is 1949. The other, which was proposed in recent years,is that27 years literature, from 1949 to 1976,should be separated from the new period literature, but it is argued that the new China literature and modern literature should be combined for one. This paper argues that the most prominent problem on the staging of modern literature and contemporary literature is that there were many differences between 27years literature,from1949 to1976,and the former literature and the later literature. 27 years literature should be divided into a separate stage. Therefore, the China modern and contemporary literature should be divided into three stages, that is,modern literature, the New China literature and the new period literature.
