Commentaries on the Reform of Criminal Law in the Last Stage of Qing Dynasty

The reform made in the last stage of Qing Dynasty is the beginning in China to modernize its criminal law. This reform inherited the traditional legal culture. Moreover, in this reform, western criminal law institutions have been introduced, modem system of Chinese criminal law has been established, the principle of a legally prescribed punishment for a specified crime has been definitely stipulated, and modem system of punishment has been set up. However, due to its social environment, the reform has its historical limitations, too.
