Relation between systemic inflammatory response syndrome and the prognosis of acute pancreatitis

Abstract

Objective To determine the usefulness of system ic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) in predicting acute pancreatitis. Methods A retrospective analysis was made in 239 patients with acute pa ncreatitis (AP).The incidence of severe acute pancreatitis and the duration of S IRS, the prognosis of acute pancreatitis,the number of positive SIRS criteria we re observed.Results SIRS incidence of severe pancreatitis (SP) was obviously higher than that of the mild one;in return, the SIRS group got a markedly higher incidence of SP,multiple organ failure (MOF) and mortality than the non-SIRS group.Along with the SIRS prolongation or aggravation the incidenc e of SP,MOF and mortality increased.Conclusion SIRS may be a crit erion for prognosing the acute pancreatitis.
