Abstract

Extracellular polymeric substances(EPS) has been reported as an important factor governing membrane fouling. This research studies the effect of sludge concentration and temperature on the quantity of the EPS and analyzes the change of LB-EPS on the impact of membrane fouling. The results show that as the concentration of EPS and its components increase when MLSS is greater than 6g/L,the rate of membrane fouling increases rapidly. The rate of membrane fouling decreases as the amounts of EPS becomes less when it is between 10~25℃.
