Medical Imageology of 64-MSCT and CTA in the Diagnosis of Carotid Body Tumor and Neurilemmoma

Objective:To evaluate the medical imagings of 64-MSCT(multi-slice spiral CT) and CTA(CT angiography) in identifying carotid body tumor and neurilemmoma.Methods:5 patients with carotid body tumors and 11 patients with neurilemmomas were examined by 64-MSCT and CTA from March 2006 to July 2008,their images were analyzed retrospectively.Results:The differential imageology of carotid body tumors and neurilemmomas had been clearly shown by 64-MSCT and CTA.The images performed by 64-MSCTA might clearly and directly reveal the relationship between tumor and carotid artery.The carotid body tumors located at the bifurcation of the carotid artery usually caused the internal and external carotid arteries shifted,and the angle between the two arteries became enlarged,just like gold cup.The neurilemmomas usually located behind the carotid artery;the carotid artery was pushed forwardly and laterally by the tumor.The angle between external and internal carotid artery didn't change obviously,and a space between the tumor and carotid artery was observed.Conclusion:The carotid body tumor and neurilemmoma have their radiological features in 64-MSCT and CTA respectively.64-MSCT and CTA may be applicable in the differential diagnosis of carotid body tumor and neurilemmoma.
