Abstract
Since the Constitutional Reform Movement of 1898, the Confucius Worshipping and Confucian-classics Reading had been charged by the new culture with dying feudalism. The Republic of China had taken a series of measure to stop Confucius worshipping and Confucian-classics reading. So Confucius and Confucianism lost their public and social justification. At the same time, Yuan Shi-kai made use of the people's attaching of orthodoxy Confucianism and tried to restore monarchy, which finally stirred up the strong anti-Confucian New Culture movement.
