Abstract
Objective To evaluate the value of enhanced dynamic CT scanning in diagnosis and differentiation of benign and malignant breast diseases. Methods CT scanning was performed in 55 females with breast diseases, including 28 cases of carcinomas,22 fibroadenomas and 5 mammary hyperplasias. After finding lesions on plain CT scanning, enhanced CT scanning of whole chest was performed at 25 sec after contrast injection(volume 80 ml,rate 2.5 ml/s), then dynamic scanning in the same slice was initiated at 50 sec after injection and then scanning one time per 20 s,total of 16 times.By combining time-density curves(TDCs),the mean peak enhanced CT values and the peak times were measured, and the enhanced curve patterns of the benign and malignant breast lesions were analysed. Results Significant difference in mean enhanced △CT values at different time existed in benign and malignant breast lesions(P0.01).The mean peak enhanced value of breast carcinoma was 58 Hu,and its peak time was about 110 s~150 s after contrast injection. The mean peak enhanced value and peak time of fibroadenoma were 38 Hu 270 s after injection, respectively. The TDCs patterns of benign and malignant breast diseases were also obviously different. Breast cancer showed a TDC type of rapid rise in early stage-peak value plateau-slow decline ,and the breast fibroadenoma presented TDC type of gradual going-up.Conclusion CT dynamic scanning has considerable value in diagnosis and differentiation of benign and malignant breast diseases. It can be an important supplementary examining method.
