Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and nerve growth factor (NGF) on nerve regeneration of the posterior cricoarytenoid muscles (PCM) in dogs. Methods After the laryngeal recurrent nerves transected, the denervated PCM were reinnervated by nerve-muscle pedicle implantation in 15 dogs. The animals were divided into 3 groups randomly:bFGF and NGF and fibrin glue (FG) group (bFGF+NGF+FG),NGF group (NGF+FG) and control group (FG),Functional recovery of PCM was observed in by laryngoscope.Electrophysiological acvitity and muscle contract strength were determened.Histochemical studies were demonstrated by Kamovsky and HE stain. Ruselts After 6 months of operation, functional recovery and nerve regeneration of the PCA in bFGF+NGF+FG group were the best in 3 groups, which were closed to normal, and functional recovery in NGF group was better than that in control group. The parameters of electrophysiological acvitity and muscle contract strength were different in bFGF+NGF+FG group,NGF group, and control group ( P 0.05 or P 0.01). Conclusion FG is prior to suture in nerve-muscle pedicle implantation.bFGF and NGF can significantly promote the nerve regenertion of the PCA after denervation, and NGF can cooperate with bFGF in nerve regeneration.
