Abstract
Objective To investigate the role of orthokeratology in the treatment of adolescent myopia. Methods A total of 78 adolescent myopia patients( 156 eyes) were continuously enrolled from 2011 September to 2012 December and were randomly prescribed with either glasses( group A) or orthokeratology( group B). Visual acuity,refraction,and corneal curvature were compared between the two groups. Results After 1 year,visual acuity was better in patients treated with orthokeratology than in patients wearing glasses. Refractive error was also significantly smaller in patients wearing orthokeratology( P 0. 05). Corneal curvature decreased in patients wearing orthokeratology,whereas it increased in patients wearing glasses,and there was a significant difference between the two groups( P 0. 05). Conclusion Orthokeratology is an effective treatment for juvenile myopia. It improves the visual function and delays the development of myopia in adolescents.
