Abstract

Cognitive linguistics is a school of linguistics,a research approach and an important part of cognitive science. There are many new concepts in cognitive linguistics,such as space,and landmark and trajectory. However,confusion occurs in proposing these concepts. In this paper we argue that denotation can be useful in clearing confusion related to space,topic,background and focus and that the term can be used in explaining all kinds of clauses,displaying universality and inference.
