Clinical significance of serum vascular endothelial growth factor in patients with small cell lung cancer

Objective To investigate the clinical value of serum vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) levels of patients in th diagnosis and treatment of small cell lung cancer(SCLC).Methods The serum VEGF levels of 69 cases of SCLC and 50 cases of healthy volunteers were detected by radioimmunoassay before and after treatment.To analyze the difference of serum VEGF levels between the patients with SCLC and healthy volunteers,and analyze the serum VEGF levels of patients with SCLC in different clinical stages,and also analyze the relationship between the curative effect and serum VEGF levels.Results Serum VEGF level of patients with SCLC[(236.83±72.35) ng/ml] was obviously higher than control group[(114.18±27.57) ng/ml,t=12.853,P 0.001];Widely period small cell lung cancer[(263.09±81.30) ng/ml] higher than limited stage[(204.63±42.04) ng/ml,t=-3.846,P0.001].The serum VEGF level of effective treatment group[(129.43±29.12) ng/ml] is lower than before[(236.90±68.76) ng/ml,t=10.030,P0.001].The serum VEGF level of ineffective treatment group[(236.72±78.60) ng/ml] chang little than before[(258.70±72.93) ng/ml,t=-1.100,P=0.281].Conclusion The serum VEGF levels measurement is helpful to diagnose small cell lung cancer(SCLC),and monitoring the serum VEGF levels changes of patients with SCLC before and after the treatment to judge the treatment effect of small cell lung cancer has a positive significance.
