Abstract

The school of literature assumes that translation is the conversion of style on the part of literary works and the recreation of the translator. Thus, understanding serving as the core, and emphasizing the subjectivity of the translators, the theory of hermeneutics is widely applied in the translation of literary works. The four steps of hermeneutic translation proposed by George Steiner: trust, aggression, incorporation and compensation are demonstrated fully in various versions of Shakespeare's masterpiece, which shows the necessity of retranslation and provides a brand-new perspective in terms of the understanding of hermeneutics in literary translation.
