Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between serum total cholesterol to HDL-C ratio and ischemic stroke.Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted during 2004—2006,through cluster multistage and random sampling to a resident(≥5 years)groups of 6 412 individuals(2 805 men,3 607 women)aged≥35 years old with hypertension in the countryside of Liaoning province and blood chemical analysis were performed at a central,certified laboratory,SPSS 11.5 of statistical software was used for data analysis.Results ①The ischemic stroke participants were 330.Compared with non-ischemic stroke,the ischemic stroke participants had higher blood pressure level,total cholesterol and LDL-C concentration.②Divided TC/HDL-C into 3.0,3.0~,3.5~,4.0~,≥4.5 five groups,the prevalence of ischemic stroke was increased with TC/HDL-C markedly.The prevalence of ischemic stroke in the highest TC/HDL-C group is 3.4 times than that in the lowest group.The relative risk of ischemic stroke incidence was significantly higher in all the group as compared to the reference group,except that in the group of TC/HDL-C 3.0~.Conclusion The prevalence of ischemic stroke was increased with serum total cholesterol to HDL-C ratio.
