Abstract

The narrative space, including the discourse space and the story space,is one of the important contents of narrative study. The study of story space is multiple meaningful and indispensable in the study of Chinese classical novels. Novel scripts of Song and Yuan Dynasties include a lot of narrative space, such as streets, yamun, temples, monasteries and outskirts and so on. They are closely related to common people's daily life, reflecting and symbolizing the real life. The narrative space in novel scripts of Song and Yuan Dynasties has important characteristics and significance, which symbolizes the transformation of the concept of novel at that time, reflecting relatively binary space model of the city and country. The frequent shifting of narrative space is the main factor to promote the conversion of plot, yet this rapid transformation in novels also lacks vivid description of details and scenery.
