Abstract

M. tuberculosis is a facultative intracellular pathogen. Extracellular proteins of M. tuberculosis induce a strong T cell-mediated immune response. Cell mediated immunity (CMI) as opposed to humoral immunity play a dominant in host defense against M. tuberculosis. The identification of specific and protective antigens of M. tuberculosis can be applied in tuberculosis diagnosis and vaccine construction.
