The Expression of P-gp, p53 and nm23 in Primary Breast Cancer and Its Clinical Significance

Abstract

Objective: To study the clinical significance of expression of P-glycoprotein (P-gp), p53, and nm23 in breast carcinoma tissues. Methods: P-gp expression in 43 case of breast cancer was examined by s-p immunohistochemistry analysis, while expression of p53, and nm23 in all the cases of breast carcinoma was detected routinely with immunohistochemistry method and the data of the latter two were used in this study. Results:The positive rates of p-gp, p53 and nm23 proteins were 48.8%, 32.6%, and 41.9% respectively in breast cancer specimens. The expression of p-gp had a significant correlation with those of p53 and nm23 protein (P0.05).The expression of p-gp was not correlated with age, menstruation status, lymph node metastasis, and pathological types of the cancer (P 0.05 ). Conclusions: Breast cancer tissue has intrinsic resistance to multidrug; Expression of P-gp was correlated with expression of p53 and nm23 proteins.
