Relationship between hereditary factors and asthma in children from Hefei city

Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between family history of allergic diseases and childhood asthma,and to explore the impact of heredity.Methods Based on cluster-sampling method,a questionnaire survey was conducted on 0~14 years old children in Hefei city.Case-control study and statistical analysis were performed to find the relationship between family history of allergic diseases and asthma.Results 24.67% of cases in the study group had family history of allergic diseases,while 4.79% of all in the control group had the same family history.Significant differences were observed between the two groups.The incidence rate of allergic diseases in the first-degree relatives was more than that in the second-degree relatives(P 0.05).Family history of asthma and other allergic diseases had great influences on asthma in children.Conclusion The incidence of asthma in children is closely associated with genetic factors.Family history should be carefully asked about when children are diagnosed with asthma.
