The expression and clinical significance of CK20 and Ki-67 in transitional cell carcinoma of human bladder

Abstract

Objective To study the expression of cytokeratin 20(CK20)and human nuclear antigen(Ki-67)in bladder transitional cell carcinoma as well as to evaluate their clinical significance.Methods Immunohistochemical method(Envosion)was used to evaluate the expreesion of CK20 in 66 patients and Ki-67 in 55 patients with bladder transitional cell carcinoma.Results The positive expression of CK20 in patients with bladder transitional cell carcinoma was 68.2%(45/66),which was statistically positive correlated with clinical stage and histological grade(P0.05).The positive expression of CK20 in recurrent cases was 92.3%(12/13),which was significantly higher than that in primary cases(62.3%)(33/53)(P0.05).The positive expression of Ki-67 in patients with bladder transitional cell carcinoma was 63.6%(35/55),which was statistically positive correlated with histological grade(P0.05).The positive expression in recurrent cases was 90.9%(10/11),which was significantly higher than that in primary cases(56.8%)(25/44)(P0.05).Conclusion The results suggested that expression of CK20 and Ki-67 in bladder transitional cell carcinoma are related to tumor biological behavior.Therefore,CK20 and Ki-67 can be useful markers of the stage,grade and prognosis of bladder transitional cell carcinoma.
