Abstract
Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of gatifloxacin and levofloxacin by a randomized controlled trial in the treatment of lower respiratory tract infections.Methods Eighty-four patients were divided into two groups.Forty-five patients were treated with gatifloxacin, 0.2 g,orally,twice a day and another thirty-nine were treated with levofloxacin, 0.2 g,orally,twice a day,all for 7-14 days.Results The clinical cure rates of gatifloxacin group and levofloxacin group were 80.0% and 74.4%,effective rates were 95.6% and 92.3%,the bacterial clearance rates were 89.7% and 88.6%(P 0.05),adverse reactions occurred in 6.7% and 7.7%,respectively.Conclusion Gatifloxacin is a safe and potent antibacterial agent in the treatment of the respiratory tract infections.
