Abstract
1. Observations on the species constitution and the seasonal fluctuations of syuan-thropic flies were made by means of fermented bran and sugar baits-trap method both indoors and outdoors in Chong-Mou County, Honan Province from April to November, 1963.2. 57 species of flies belonging to 6 families were obtained. Among them, 9 are first records from Honan (marked with asterisk in the Chinese text), and an Oriental blood-sucking fly, Haematobia sanguisugens Austen is new to Chinese fauna.3. 13 species were most common and the numbers of capture have been recorded monthly. There were three peaks in the total amount of flies captured. The first peak derived from spring type flies, such as Aldrichina grahami, Muscina stabulans, Ravinia striata, the second peak from Lucilia illustris, Chrysomya megacephala, Ber-caea haemorrkoidalis, Polleniopsis mongolica, Parasarcophaga crassipalpis, Orthellia coerulea as well as a part of Musca domestica vicina; and the third and highest one arose chiefly from the autumn type fly Musca domestica vicina, accompanied by the part due to Lucilia sericata. Attention is to be called to that the peaks of Chrysomya megacephala, Musca sorbens and Stomoxys calcitrans appeared in late summer.4. Musca domestica vicina was the most abundant species. Its breeding 7nedia are human excrement and big live-stock dung. Its control measures are proposed.
