Efficacy of Chinese medicine fumigation bath for postoperative pain and edema of anorectal department

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of herbal fumigation on relieving postoperative pain and edema after anorectal surgery. Methods 96 patients with anorectal disease surgery were randomly divided into observation group and control group,48 patients in the observation group was given TCM medicine fumigation bath, the treatment prescription include: purslane,made rhubarb,dandelion,common dayflower, the red peony,phellodendron, glauber salt,f rankincense,myrrh, angelica and gallnut. The control group was treated with warm water fumigation bath.Patients in both groups received bath treatment in the morning and at evening, 20 min per time with 3 d for a course of treatment. To assess the degree of postoperative pain using a visual analog scale(VAS),while the patient's wound edema were observed and compared. Results Before treatment, the pre-treatment pain scores and wound edema scores had no significant difference between the two groups, and the indexes in the two groups both decreased at first course of treatment and after 2 courses of treatment,but the observation group was significant lower than that of control group(P 0. 05). Conclusion TCM medicine fumigation sitz bath can effectively eliminate edema, relieve pain, it is one of the strong external treatment method on relieving postoperative pain in patients with edema of anorectal surgery.
