Abstract

Based on the paleontological composite analysis of borehole and sectional samples for the areas of Caoqiao, Wujin City and Shuibei, Jintan City, in combination with a comprehensive study to the lithology, paleo-climate and paleo-magnetism, three times of large-scaled marine transgression are born out to occur in the northwest of Taihu Lake Plain since Quaternary Period, they are Taihu Lake transgression in the early period of Late Pleistocene Epoch, Gehu transgression in the later period of Late Pleistocene Epoch and Zhenjiang transgression in Holocene Epoch.
