Abstract

Promoting mineral resource agglomeration is one of the effective approaches to the development of mineral industry in China's western region,so the research on the relevance of the degree of industrial agglomeration and industrial competitiveness can provide strategies to promoting competitiveness in the region. The degree of mineral industrial agglomeration has an effect on mineral industrial competitiveness and regional economy caused by mineral industrial agglomeration. This paper chooses location quotient to represent the degree of mineral industrial agglomeration,or concretely,to choose number-based location quotient to represent the degree of spatial agglomeration, and output value-based location quotient to indicate the degree of economic agglomeration;this paper chooses ratio of output value to profit to show mineral industrail competitiveness.Based on the measurement of the degree of spatial agglomeration, degree of economic agglomeration, and ratio of output value to profit of nine mineral industries in the western region, this paper concludes that most mineral industries in the western region are still in spatial agglomeration but lack adequate degree of economic agglomeration, particularly in manufacturing industry in downstream chain, which has resulted in some difficulties in bringing agglomeration effect into play, accompanied by low ratio of output value to profit.Further more, the relevance analysis indicates that there is positive correlation between the degree of mineral industrial agglomeration and industrial competitiveness in the region, and economic agglomeration has greater effect on mineral industrial competitiveness than spatial agglomeration. Thus,it is neccessary to raise the degree of industrial agglomeration, especially the degree of economic agglomeration besides developing downstream chain for the purpose of effectively promoting mineral industrial competitiveness in the western region.
