Effect of Losartan and Valsartan on Uric Acid Metabolism in Patients with Renal Hypertension

Objective To observe the effect of angiotensin receptor antagonists Losartan and Valsartan on renal hypertension.Methods Thirty cases of chronic glomerulonephritis in which endogenous creatinine clearance rate was 0.5ml·s -1 /1.73m 2,with sitting diastolic blood pressure≥95 and ≤114mmHg were randomized.The changes of mean arterial pressure (MAP),serum uric acid,Ccr, 24h uric uric acid were compared before or after administration of Losartan (50mg/d)or Valsartan (80mg/d) for 4 weeks.Results Losartan increased the uric acid excretion in renal hypertension( P 0.01),whilst Valsartan did not. Neither of them modified serum urate concentration.Conclusion Losartan increases uric acid excretion in renal hypertension patients,the effect of uric acid metabolism is not dependent on the lowering of blood pressure level,other mechanism may be involved.
