Abstract
Objective To discuss the causes of metabolic alkalosis in patients with type Ⅱ respiratory failure. Methods The clinical data of 48 COPD patients with type Ⅱ respiratory failure and metabolic alkalosis were analyzed retrospectively. Results All the cases happened in the courses of hospitalization.Glucocorticosteroid, diuretics, respiratory analeptic and alkali medicament and mechanical ventilation were used in 40,35,11,10 and 3 patients respectively. Conclusions The major cause of metabolic alkalosis in patients with type Ⅱ respiratory failure is hospital-Acquired.The clinical doctors should pay more attentions to reduce the complications. Alkalosis should be corrected as quickly as possible in order to prevent other serious complications.
