Investigation of the cause of elevated serum CA50 levels in patients with liver cirrhosis

Abstract

To investigate the relationship between serum CA50 levels and the biochemical parameters of liver function,and to explore the cause of increasing serum CA50 levels in patients with liver cirrhosis.We selected 53 cases with liver cirrhosis which included 33 patients with cirrhosis after hepatitis virus cirrhosis,6 patients with alcohclic cirrhosis,2 patients with autoimmune liver cirrhosis,one patient of primary biliary cirrhosis and 11 patients with unknowing cause cirrhosis.Their biochemical parameters of liver function and serum CA50 level of every patients were examined at the same time.The serum CA50 level of 22(41.50%) cases was notably rise.The serum CA50 levels in patients with liver cirrhosis was positively correlated with alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspattate aminotranserase(AST),direct bilirubin(DBil)and Child-pugh' scoring.But it was albumin(ALB),γ-glutamyltransferase(GGT),alkaline phosphatase(ALP) hot significantly total bilirubin(TBil).Cholestasis and the damage of liver's function are the main determinants on increasing serum CA50 level in patients with liver cirrhosis under conditions that the carcinoma does not exist.It can help to evaluate the severe degree of the disease and prognosis.
