Nausea and Vomiting after Spinal Anesthesia Can be Prevented by Granisetron Plus Dexamethasone

Objective To compare the efficacy of granisetron plus dexamethasone with that of granisetron alone for preventing mausea and vomiting in parturients undergoing cesearean section under spinal anesthesia.Methods 40 parturients received randomly either granisetron 3 mg(Group A,n=20) or granisetron 3 mg plus dexamethasone 10 mg(Group B,n=20)Ⅳ before the beginning of surgery.Results Blood pressure during and postoperation were lower than those before anesthesia(P0.05).The PONV rate in group A during the first 24 h after surgery was higher significantly than that in group B(P0.05).Conclusion Granisetron plus dexamethasone is more effective than granisetron alone for reducing nausea and vomiting in parturients after spinal anesthesia.
