Abstract

The chromogenic reaction of heterocycle triazene color reagent BTBPT with mercury was studied.In the presence of surface active agent Triton X-100 and in a borax buffer solution Na_2B_4O_7-NaOH of pH 10.9,mercury() ion reacted with BTBPT to form a stable color complex with molar ratio of 1:2.The apparent molar absorptivity was 1.9810~5 Lmol~(-1)cm~(-1) at the maximum absorption wavelength of 465nm.Beers law was obeyed in the range of 012μg/25mL.This reagent has been used to determine Hg~(2+) in waste water successfully.
