Abstract

objective To investigate the effect of colchicine on cardiac hypertrophy and circulating and ventricular AngiotensinⅡ(AngⅡ) and ventricular transforming growth factor-beta 1(TGF-β1). Methods Circulating and cardiac muscle AngⅡ was measured by radioimmunoassay, ventricular TGF-β1was examined by RT-PCR after abdominal aorta constriction(AC). Results The levels of AngⅡ, TGF-β1 and ratios of overall or left heart weight to body weight were significantly increased after AC two weeks or four weeks and significantly decreased after treatment with colchicine. Conclusion These results suggest that colchicine can inhibit the genesis of cardiac hypertrophy and down regulated the expression of correlated factors.
