Abstract
Objective To study the significance of the expression of HIF-1a,VEGF protein in gastric carcinoma and to explore the correlation between the expression of HIF-1a and VEGF protein. Methods The expression of HIF-1a and VEGF protein was detected with MaxvisionTM immunohistochemical method in 125 patients with gastric carcinoma. Results There was no significant correlation between the HIF-1a and VEGF protein expression and cancer size, cancer differentiation.Expression of HIF-1a and VEGF protein was significantly correlated with tumor invasion, lymph metastasis, and pathological TNM staging. There is a close correlation between the positive expression of VEGF and HIF-1a protein. Conclusion HIF-1a and VEGF protein are useful markers for predicting the metastatic potential of gastric cancer. The expression of HIF-1a was correlated to that of VEGF.Expression of the two proteins suggests a more possibilities of tumor metastasis, and combined analyses of the two markers might be useful in the choice of treatment modalities.
