Abstract

Leymus secalimus, a species of a typical clonal plant, is distributed widely across the sandy soil of the Kerqin steppe region. The tiller nodes and the rhizomes of L. secalimus can live for up to 4 years in the Kerqin steppe region of Inner Mongolia. In this study which was conducted during the middle ten days of August, the rhizomes of the clonal population consisted of four age classes in a 11-12 years vegetative restoration plot, and three age classes in a 4-5 years vegetative restoration plot. The tillers of the populations consisted of two age classes, which showed expanding age structure. A shorter restoration time was more obvious in the expanding age structure in the two plots.
