Abstract
Objective To analyze the surgical management applied to the patients with mandibular prognathism. The management was sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO) using micro machine surgical apparatus. Methods The preoperative routines such as presurgical orthodontic treatment, cephalometric analysis, model surgery and occlusion splint were performed as necessary. During the surgery, we applied SSRO to the patients with postsurgical intermaxillary fixation for 1 2 weeks. Results SSRO is an effective method of treating mandibular prognathism. The results show improvement in the occlusion and facial contours as well the restoration of function. Conclusion SSRO can successfully improve the symptoms of mandibular prognathism, including restoring the occlusion, facial contour and function.
